How to Respond When Customers Ask “Is This Still Available?”
Answer the question in the first line. Say yes or no, then give the one detail the customer needs next, then offer a single next step. Everything below is built on that pattern, with copy-paste replies you can adapt today.
That pattern is my recommendation, not a WhatsApp rule. The tools and setup tips that support it come from WhatsApp's own business guides, and I mark which is which.

The Direct Answer
When a customer writes "Is this still available?", they are asking one thing: can I buy this? Reply to that first.
A good reply has three parts. The answer ("Yes, still available"). The key detail ("RM[price], [quantity] left"). One next step ("Shall I reserve one for you?").
Skip the long greeting, the history of the product and a list of questions. Those can come after the customer has their answer.
Why It's Worth Getting Right
I could not find a published study on how availability enquiries convert, so I won't quote a figure. What I can say is simple. The customer has already picked a product. The question is about whether you can serve them, which makes it one of the more direct buying signals in a chat. That is my reading, not a documented result.
It is also a question you will see again and again. WhatsApp's own business onboarding guide advises you to "create quick replies for your most frequently asked questions," so you can "send a pre-written response in seconds." Availability is a natural candidate for that list.
Before You Reply: Make the Answer Easy to Give
The fastest way to answer "Is this still available?" is to already know. A few WhatsApp Business app settings help with that.
Keep the catalog honest
WhatsApp's catalog guide says to "regularly update your catalog," and recommends hiding products "to ensure that you're not displaying items that aren't currently in stock." It also says you can hide colours or variations that aren't available yet.
The page does not describe a separate "out of stock" label. Hiding is the method it suggests. A catalog can hold up to 500 items, and items can be shared in a chat.
Show your hours
The same onboarding guide calls a complete business profile "a crucial trust-builder," and lists operating hours among the fields to fill in. If a customer writes at night, your profile and away message set expectations.
Set an away message with a real time
WhatsApp says: "Always include an expected response time in your away message so customers know when they'll hear back from you." Put in a time your team can actually keep.
Script 1: Yes, It's Available
Use this when the item is in stock and you can confirm it.
Hi [Name], yes, [product] is still available. It's RM[price], and we have [quantity] left. Would you like me to reserve one for you?
Hi [Nama], ya, [produk] masih ada. Harga RM[harga], baki [kuantiti]. Nak saya reserve satu untuk anda?
Why it works: it answers, gives the price and stock, and asks one question.
Script 2: Limited Stock
Use this only when it is true.
Hi [Name], yes, [product] is available, but we only have [number] left. Would you like me to hold one while you decide? I can keep it until [time/date].
Hi [Nama], ya, [produk] ada, tapi tinggal [bilangan] sahaja. Nak saya simpankan satu dulu? Boleh simpan sampai [masa/tarikh].
Only say "limited" if it is. Making up scarcity is a quick way to lose trust. That advice is mine.
Script 3: Sold Out
Do not leave the customer hanging.
Hi [Name], sorry, [product] is sold out at the moment. We expect new stock around [date/"I'll confirm soon"]. Would you like me to message you when it's back, or shall I show you a similar item?
Hi [Nama], maaf, [produk] sudah habis buat masa ini. Kami jangkakan stok baharu sekitar [tarikh]. Nak saya maklumkan bila ada semula, atau nak saya cadangkan produk yang serupa?
Be careful with the promise to message later. Only offer it to people who have messaged you and agreed to hear from you. WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy says you may contact people only if they gave you their number and "you have received opt-in permission from the recipient confirming that they wish to receive subsequent messages."
Script 4: Let Me Check
When you are not sure, say so and say when you'll reply.
Hi [Name], thanks for asking about [product]. Let me check our stock and get back to you by [time].
Hi [Nama], terima kasih bertanya tentang [produk]. Saya semak stok dulu ya, saya akan balas sebelum [masa].
This beats a guess. A wrong "yes" is worse than a short wait. That is my view, and the time you promise should be one you can meet.
Script 5: Someone Else Has Reserved It
Hi [Name], [product] is currently reserved for another customer until [time]. If the reservation isn't completed, I'll let you know. Would you like to be next in line?
Hi [Nama], [produk] sedang direserve untuk pelanggan lain sehingga [masa]. Kalau tak jadi, saya akan maklumkan. Nak masuk giliran seterusnya?
Script 6: The Question Arrives After a Blast
If your customer replies to a promotion you sent, the same scripts apply, with one extra point about timing.
On the WhatsApp Business Platform, the customer service window lasts 24 hours after the customer's last message, according to Twilio's documentation and WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy. Inside it you can reply freely. Outside it, "you may only send messages via approved Message Templates."
So when someone replies to your blast with "Is this still available?", answer while the window is open. Replying late, or after the window has closed, is harder. These rules apply to the Business Platform. If you use the Business app on a phone, check WhatsApp's help pages for your case.
Turn the Scripts into Quick Replies
Copy each script once, and save it so it takes seconds to send.
WhatsApp's onboarding guide says to "create quick replies for your most frequently asked questions" and advises creating at least five quick replies for your most common questions in its Day 3 checklist. The Business app describes quick replies as shortcuts for "messages you frequently send to respond to common questions in just a few taps."
Fill in the brackets by hand each time. Do not send "[Name]" or "[price]" by mistake. That reminder is mine.
Label the Chat
A customer who asks "Is this still available?" is a lead. Keep track of them.
WhatsApp's guide suggests starting with a simple set of lists that reflects your sales cycle, and gives these examples: "New inquiry," "Pending info," "Order in progress," "Payment pending," "Completed," and "Follow up." It recommends spending five minutes at the end of each day labeling open chats.
Here is how they could map to this situation. The mapping is my suggestion.
Situation | Suggested label |
Customer just asked if it's available | New inquiry |
You are checking stock | Pending info |
Customer agreed, waiting for payment | Payment pending |
Sold out, customer wants to be told when it's back | Follow up |
Order confirmed | Order in progress |
Delivered | Completed |
WhatsApp's help page says you can create up to 20 labels.
What Not to Do
Don't answer "yes" automatically if your stock isn't certain. WhatsApp's policy allows automation inside the 24-hour window, but you must "have available prompt, clear, and direct escalation paths." A customer who can't reach a person after a wrong auto-reply is a lost customer.
Don't leave sold-out items visible in your catalog. WhatsApp's own advice is to hide items that aren't in stock.
Don't promise a restock date you can't keep.
What the Sources Don't Tell You
They don't say how quickly you should reply to an availability question, and they don't show that any particular wording increases sales. They don't say how Blaster Pro or any other tool handles replies. The scripts here are my suggestions, built on what WhatsApp documents about quick replies, catalogs and labels. Adapt them to your own products and voice.
FAQ
What is the best reply to "Is this still available?"
Answer yes or no first, add the price and quantity, then offer one next step. That structure is my recommendation. WhatsApp's guides support the tools, such as quick replies, a current catalog and labels.
How do I stop customers asking when something is sold out?
WhatsApp's catalog guide says to hide products that aren't in stock and to update the catalog regularly. The page doesn't describe an out-of-stock label.
Can I use auto-replies for availability questions?
WhatsApp's policy allows automation during the 24-hour window if customers have prompt, clear and direct escalation paths. Only automate when your stock information is always up to date.
How many quick replies should I set up?
WhatsApp's onboarding checklist suggests creating at least five for your most common questions. Availability, price, delivery, payment and location are natural starting points. That list of topics is my suggestion.
